Buying Your Own Home

If you are currently one of our tenants and you are thinking about buying your own property, there are several options available to you with us:

Preserved Right to Buy

Were you originally a tenant with Reigate & Banstead Borough Council at the time the property transferred to us? If you were and you have stayed in one of our homes ever since, you may be eligible for the Right to Buy scheme. You could also qualify for this scheme if you had one of the homes which transferred to us from the London Boroughs of Merton and Sutton. This means you could receive a discount of up to £77,900 when buying your current property, depending on the value of the property and the length of your tenancy.

You can download the application form here and the Government guide to the scheme here.

Right to Acquire

If your tenancy started with us or you transferred to us from another Housing Association or Local Authority then you may be eligible for the Right to Acquire scheme. This could give you a discount of £16,000 in Surrey and £13,500 in Sussex when buying your current home.

You can download the application form here and the Government guide to the scheme here.

Voluntary Right to Buy Extension

The Government is planning to extend the Right to Buy scheme to Housing Association tenants. This scheme has not yet been launched yet and the Government have not given a date for it. They are planning to run a second pilot before launching which we do not think will affect any of our tenants. You can sign up for updates from the Government on progress on this scheme using their website:

Shared Ownership

If your household earns less than £80,000 per year you may be able to buy a Shared Ownership property. This means you would buy a share of the property, usually 25%, and you would pay rent on the rest. You can purchase additional shares in the property over time. You need to buy the share of the property using savings or a mortgage and for many people this is an affordable way to buy a home. Shared Ownership properties are usually brand new homes so in most circumstances you cannot convert your current home to shared ownership.

To register your interest in a Shared Ownership property, visit You must register on the Help To Buy website before you can apply to properties.
