A feeling of ‘Wellbeing’ at Oakwood School
A former school storeroom has been transformed into a warm and welcoming ‘Wellbeing Room’ thanks to Raven Housing Trust's efforts.
As part of their annual ‘Face to Face’ community day, a group of Raven staff offered their help to re-decorate the room for children attending Oakwood School in Horley.
Their mission was to turn what was an old and neglected storeroom into an inviting space where children can go to relax when they are feeling frustrated or anxious – a big ask!
Laurence Nasskau, Raven’s Tenancy Services Manager and Project Leader, explained: “Just painting the storeroom would not turn it into a ‘Wellbeing Room’.
“So we asked the school how they felt about us removing a huge rusty security grille covering the windows – which made it feel much like a prison.
“They were more than happy for us to remove it, and when we did take it off, it really was a ‘WOW’ moment. When the light flooded in, it transformed the look and feel of the whole room.
“It was great to work with people across different teams at Raven and everyone pitched in brilliantly.”
