 There are many ways that you can reduce your environmental impact in your home, and you can save plenty of money along the way!

 

Energy Helpline

Raven is working with Energy Helpline to provide a service to new and existing tenants to help them get the most competitive gas and electricity tariff. By making a quick and simple switch, savings can be up to £400 a year! Borrow a Raven electricity monitorEnergy Monitor

Raven residents (and homeowners) can borrow an energy monitor for 6 weeks free of charge. The monitor shows you how much electricity you are using (and what it costs) and can reduce electricity bills by 10% through improved awareness. Please call Raven’s energy officer on 01737 272400 for more information. You may also be able to borrow an electricity monitor from your energy supplier or local library.

 

Grants and funding

There are grants and benefits available to make your home more energy efficient, improve your heating or help you with bills. It is worth claiming all the benefits you are entitled to – contact the Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 (freephone) for more information and help. Homeowners may qualify for different grants and benefits to residents who rent (contact Raven for more information). Your energy provider may also be able to offer grants, funding and help with bills.

Winter Fuel Payment

This is a tax-free benefit to help towards heating bills during the winter months. You may qualify for this if you are aged 60 or over, and you normally live in the UK.

Cold weather payment

Cold weather payments are made during periods of very cold weather to help pay for extra heating costs. To get a cold weather payment, the average temperature where you live

must be recorded as, or expected to be, 0°C or below for seven days in a row. You may automatically qualify if you get one of the following benefits:

- Income support

- Employment and support allowance (income related)

- Income-based jobseeker’s allowance

- Pension credit.
