Community Investment Committee
Want to make a difference in your community? Want to get your hands on some of Raven’s money? The Community Investment Committee is just the thing for you!
A Community Investment Committee (CIC) is a panel of residents who oversee control of part of Raven’s housing management budget. The committee’s agree a program of neighbourhood improvements or projects which benefit the local community and which residents see as a priority.
The committees are resident led and control a combined budget of £50,000, per neighbourhood. Raven supports three CICs which represent the north, south and central areas of Surrey and neighbouring counties in which Raven has homes.
Requests for improvements come from residents groups, Raven staff and community organisations as well as through suggestions from individuals. The committee also carry out a neighbourhood tour which helps them to identify specific areas which require extra attention.
Each committee decides by vote what projects it wishes to fund. To receive funding the committee must be satisfied that a project provides a tangible benefit to Raven residents living in the locality and that local consultation has been carried out to show that residents are in favour of a project taking place.
What kind of time commitment is required?
Meetings take place around 4 times per year and usually last around 2 hours. In addition to this, you’d also be expected to read through all funding bids in advance of the meeting, which may take around an hour.
If you are unable to get to a meeting, your views can be passed on to the Chair of the CIC by e-mail, in writing or by phone.
I have an idea for an improvement or project in my neighbourhood. What do I need to do?
You will firstly need to approach your Community Housing Manager, which you can do by calling 01737 272400, who will then provide you with a project proposal form. Your CHM can assist you with the completion of this form. You may also be asked by the CIC to come along to explain a little more about your idea.
