Chinese delegation visits Raven

19 December 2011

A delegation of Chinese leaders have visited social homes in Surrey to help shape housing policies in a country in need of affordable homes.

The experts visited Raven to learn more about housing in the UK and apply its principles to develop more affordable homes in Shanghai.

Hongmin Zhang, Professor at Shanghai Academy of social sciences and Professor Nanshen Sun, Dean of Law School of Fudan University and four officials from the Councillors' Office in Shanghai visited Raven's offices to meet with senior managers and find out more about how Raven manages its 6000 social homes in and around east Surrey.

Jonathan Higgs, Raven's chief executive said: "We were delighted to have met with the delegation at Raven. It's always good to remember that there are many different ways in which countries meet housing need. Raven's emphasis on building and investing in local communities was of particular interest to the delegation, as was the relationship between the private and public sector. We would like to thank them for taking the time to visit us."

China wants to build 36 million homes over five years.
