Knowledge is power in the fight against organised crime

27 March 2017

An elderly lady was conned out of large sum of money in the Reigate and Banstead area yesterday lunch time. It could have happened to anyone so please share this information with your loved ones and neighbours so we can stop these criminals from accessing your hard earned savings.

The lady was duped by a man pretending to be a bank fraud investigator and asked her to help him try and catch out a member of staff at the bank.  He was very convincing and very charming and seemed very real.

PLEASE DO NOT EVER GIVE YOUR BANKING DETAILS INCLUDING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT OR PIN NUMBERS TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE NO MATTER HOW CHARMING OR CONVINCING THEY MIGHT BE.
IF IN DOUBT USE ANOTHER PHONE AT THE TIME TO CALL A FRIEND OR SURREY POLICE OR SPEAK DIRECTLY TO A NEIGHBOUR.

NEVER EVER CALL THEM BACK ON THE HOUSE PHONE TO CHECK THEIR IDENTITY AS THEY WILL HAVE A PHONE SERVICE IN PLACE TO PRETEND TO BE YOUR BANK.

A courier attended her home address later that day and took her money and her bank cards the police are investigating this matter.

If you think you or a member of your family has been duped or conned by such a person please report this matter to the police on 101 or use the report online system via the website..

If you have any queries about this matter please contact your local crime prevention officer.
