Polybead insulation was put into the chimney flues, and mineral wool into the loft.

Solar thermal panels

Solar thermal panels work with the ground source heat pump to provide hot water and heating.

Triple glazed windows/door

Janex triple-glazed windows and front door include 'thermal breaks' and insulation. A composite U-value of 1.1 W/m2K.

Ground source heat pump

Working with the solar thermal panels to provide hot water and heating, the heat pump circulates water and antifreeze around a ground loop pipe, buried in the garden. Heat from the ground is absorbed into this fluid and pumped through a heat exchanger. This is concentrated into a higher temperature capable of heating water.

Wildlife garden

Funded by Surrey County Council’s green space fund, the front garden was turned into a wildlife haven, including a bucket pond, fruit trees, native hedgerows, beetle stack and bird feeders, by Surrey Wildlife Trust and Raven.

External cladding

Installed by Eaga and sourced from Permarock, external cladding provides very high thermal insulation without reducing internal floor area. 160mm thick with an EPS platinum insulation board. Brick slips were specially made to match the existing brickwork of the surrounding houses.

Solar PV panel

Raven and Wates funded a single PV15 photovoltaic PV panel in addition to the TSB funded works. Due to limited south-facing roof area, only a single PV panel could be installed, with a peak output of 225 Wp. Electricity generated by the PV will help power the ground source heat pump, with any excess electricity being used for other electricity demands.

Mechanical heat recovery system

Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system brings fresh air from the outside and recycles (via a heat exchanger) wasted heat from the exhaust air drawn from bathrooms and kitchens.

Installed as part of Raven’s decent homes programme, the kitchen has low energy appliances, FSC cabinets and aerating taps with flow restrictors.

Low water bathroom

Refurbished as part of Raven’s decent homes programme, the bathroom has a low capacity cistern, aerating/low flow bathroom taps and shower head installed. The downstairs toilet cistern was changed to a dual flush toilet.

Loft insulation

Mineral wool insulation was put into the loft, with rigid insulation on the loft hatch to maintain storage space and headroom.
